Aston Villa are expected to announce Roberto Di Matteo as their new manager in the next 48 hours.
The former Chelsea and Schalke boss has emerged as the outstanding candidate after a long search to replace Remi Garde, who left the club at the end of March.
Nigel Pearson was also one of the names in the frame before instead taking the Derby County job, but Di Matteo has also impressed Villa chairman Steve Hollis.
According to The Sun, the Italian’s arrival at Villa Park is all but done, and he should start work before the weekend.

Di Matteo, 45, has a big job on his hands as he looks to take Villa straight back up to the Premier League after a dreadful season.
Villa were relegated on just 17 points, winning only three games all season and conceding 76 goals, while a lack of professionalism shown by senior players such as Joleon Lescott and Gabriel Agbonlahor was also seen as a major problem.
Di Matteo has previously guided West Brom to top flight promotion from the Championship, though his finest hour undoubtedly came in his brief stint at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League and FA Cup in the 2011/12 season.
